Spec Racer Build - Steering

I'm using a Momo steering wheel and Wilwood quick release hub. I like this wheel because it has bulges where I normally position my hands. The wheel is made to fit street cars for which they make adapters, but we had to make an adapter to mate the wheel to the q/r hub.

The forward steering shaft bracket is very flexible, resulting in a vague feel at the steering wheel and imprecise steering. A strengthening rib was added in the middle of the bracket to remedy this.
Some people may find that the steering wheel ends up too high or too low. To fix this, we removed the standard bracket and added one to the back of the dashbar. This allows for easier adjustment of wheel height with spacers.
The main steering shaft is two pieces. The upper shaft from the Mustang donor fits into another tubular piece. We installed a setscrew and jamnut to allow the length of the shaft to be adjusted.
I'm using power steering because I like to have a very responsive steering feel. It will be too twitchy for some, but manual steering is easy to install if that is your preference.

This site contains pics and info as a reference to those building FFR Spec Racers, and anyone that simply has an interest.

The site will not be updated further as I have sold this car in early 2003 before the start of the race season.
