Spec Racer Build - Miscellaneous

The Lakewood bellhousing is a comforting addition. An exploding clutch would otherwise easily go through the aluminum footbox. It's a tight fit, and it ends up being the lowest part of the car.
The Canton road race oil pan is seen here. The Mustang 302 engine should live longer because of this.
A view of the Fuel Safe. It hangs fairly low, and is normally susceptible to damage from rear impact because it is mounted in the crush zone. We added a rear "bumper" that extends from the main frame rails to keep this area from crushing too easily.
The body is split in the middle of the door openings to make it easier to install and remove. Attached to the door bars in the cage are special mounts that join the two halves together.
We are using a Hurst shifter with the kit shift arm. This required a custom boot, which we made from the Mustang shift boot.
Here you can see the layout of the gauges as well as the pull cable for the Halon system. Turn the tach so that redline equals straight up. This makes it easier to judge rpm at a glance.
The Halon fire system is more effective and easier than a fire extinguisher. The bottle is mounted in the passenger floor lengthwise so that it will work even if the car has rolled. There are two nozzles in the driver area.

Just a cool pic with our street driven Cobra in the foreground and the race car in the background.

This site contains pics and info as a reference to those building FFR Spec Racers, and anyone that simply has an interest.

The site will not be updated further as I have sold this car in early 2003 before the start of the race season.
